Woodbridge HS Football 2003

Season Record   8-3

Head Coach: Brian Russo

Overall Most Valuable Player

Although football is a team game, there are always individuals who stand a cut above the rest.  Without the services of either of these two young men, the Barrons do not enjoy the success they did in 2003.  Therefore, my choice for Overall MVP is:

Keith Zalasar  (RB, FS, KR, PR)

Offensive Lineman Award

There is no way I can identify one individual as an obvious stand out.  They all played 11 games as a solid and cohesive unit.  They opened holes for 2055 Rushing Yards,

protected for 844 Passing Yards, allowed only 27 tackles for a loss for 2.4 per game,

and allowed only 8 sacks for 0.7 per game.  Each and every one was an integral component of the Barrons Offense, therefore my choice is a Unit Award for:

Ken Siano  (RT)

Started games 1 thru 11.

Elliot Bernard  (RG)

Started games 1 thru 8, broken ankle in game 8 – did not return.

Josh Bernard  (TE, RG)

Broken thumb for games 1 and 2 – started games 3 thru 11.

Brad Kotuski (C)

Started games 1 thru 11.

John Janowski  (LG)

Started games 1 thru 11.

CJ McDevitt  (LT)

Started games 1 thru 11.

Matt Bouchard  (TE)

Started games 1 thru 11.

Most Valuable Defensive Player

Ryan Mozolic (LB)

Recorded 36 Solo Tackles, 22 Assisted Tackles, 8 Tackles for a Loss,

5.5 Sacks, 1 INT for a TD, Caused 3 Fumbles, Recovered 3 Fumbles 1 for a TD.

Scored 12 Total Points Defensively.

Defensive Field Leader

Josh Bernard  (LB)

Recorded 35 Solo Tackles, 24 Assisted Tackles, 6 Tackles for a Loss,

3 Sacks, Recovered 1 Fumble.

Missed games 1 and 2 with a broken thumb.  Both were losses.  I believe

his absence was a crucial loss for the Defensive Unit.  Once back on the field,

he communicated the defensive plays and took charge as needed.

Defensive Lineman Award

Once again, there is no way I can identify one individual as an obvious stand out.  They all played 11 games as a solid and cohesive unit.  They created the front wall that allowed only 1678 Rushing Yards a 152.5 Yards Against Per Game Average, made the bulk of the 55 Tackles for a Loss for a -117 Yards, and busted holes assisting the Line backing Corp to register 29 Sacks Against as a Team for -168 Yards.  Each and every one was an integral component of the Barrons Defense, therefore my choice is a Unit Award for:

Pete Mazzillo (DT)

22 Solo Tackles, 17 Assisted Tackles, 8.5 Tackles for a Loss, 2 Caused Fumbles,

2 Recovered Fumbles.

Justin Hinds (DE)

19 Solo Tackles, 15 Assisted Tackles, 7 Tackles for a Loss, 5.5 Sacks, 1 Caused

Fumble, 1 Recovered Fumble.

Shamar Graves (DE)

23 Solo Tackles, 12 Assisted Tackles, 7 Tackles for a Loss, 5.5 Sacks, 1 INT,

1 Tackle for a Safety.

Andre Jones (DT)

11 Solo Tackles, 6 Assisted Tackles, 2 Tackles for a Loss, 1 Caused Fumble.
