2005 COACHING STAFF
BRIAN RUSSO -
Head Coach
This
was the third season as the Head Coach of the Woodbridge HS Football Program
for Coach Russo. His career record through 2005 is 16-15. 12-12 in
the regular season, 1-2 in the NJSIAA Playoffs, 1-0 in NJSIAA Consolation
Games, and 2-1 against the Colonia Patriots.
In
2005, his Varsity Squad registered a disappointing 3-7 overall record, and did
not qualify for the NJSIAA,
In
2004, his WHS Football Program registered a 5-5 overall record, and a second
consecutive appearance in the NJSIAA,
In
2003, he was given the Head Coaches job, and e guided the WHS Football Program
to an overall 8-3 record, a return to the NJSIAA,
In
2002, he was assigned as the WHS Assistant Defensive Coordinator, posting a 4-6
record. Defeated crosstown
rivals, the Colonia Patriots, 27-22.
In
2001, he was assigned as the WHS Running Back and D-Line Coach, guiding the
team to a

2001 through present, Coach Russo has also coordinated the Off Season Strength
and Condtioning Program.
From
1996 through 2000, Russo attended

also played football! He was a two time Team Captain. In 1999 he
was a First Team All NEC / Lutheran Brotherhood All American, and an Academic
All American from 1998 through 2000!
In
addition to his football talents, he was the 1996 Region 5 Champion, Distict 19 Champion (26-3), and Top 12 Qualifier in NJ in
the sport of Wrestling.
In
1995, his senior year at Woodbridge HS, the Football Team went 7-2. As a
Fullback, he provided some powerful blocking for (RB) Kyle Johnson (

the 1994 season, the Barrons went

1993, he was a member of the Woodbridge HS Barrons,
State Championship Team. The Team went 9-2 that season. He was a
Fullback and Middle Linebacker, starting in 2 games. Defeated crosstown rivals, the Colonia
Patriots, 14-13
Currently,
Coach Russo resides in the Sewaren section of
AL REINOSO - Defensive Coordinator
This
is the seventh season for Coach Reinoso with the WHS Barrons Program, eighth overall season in Football.
His
coaching assignments with WHS have run the course from Freshmen Coach through
each HS level to his current job as D-Coordinator.
In
addition to Football coaching, he has ten seasons coaching Lacrosse and
Wrestling in his resume. He currently coaches Lacrosse at Westfield HS
and Wrestling at Rahway HS, and has coached both sports at the collegiate
level.
Reinoso played Varsity Football at Seton Hall Prep for
three seasons, and one season for cross town rival, Colonia
HS. He performed as a Wide Receiver, Linebacker and Defensive Back.
He graduated in 1982.

JOHN MOYER - Assistant Coach
This
is the seventh season for Coach Moyer with the WHS Barrons
Program. Previously, he spent two years at Monroe HS and one year at JFK
HS (

area of expertise is the "Kicking Game", O-Line and D-Line.
In
1995, he coached then, FB and MLB Brian Russo, as well as (in his words)
"Stud Tailback", Kyle Johnson (

WALSH - Assistant Coach
This
is the third season for Coach Walsh with the WHS Barrons
Program. Previously, he spent three years coaching at cross town JFK HS (

area of expertise is Middle Linebacker and Tight End.
In
addition to his football coaching duties, Walsh is the WHS Wrestling Coach,
bringing home the White Division Championship each of the past three years,
including a District Championship.
Walsh
was a three year starter at Sayreville War Memorial HS, with a 24-6 career
record. In 1995, he was named Team Captain. He played the positions of
Fullback and Middle Linebacker.

MIKE
ORTIZ - Assistant Coach
This
is the third season for Coach Ortiz with the WHS Barrons
Program. Previously, he spent the 2001 and 2002 Football seasons at
Weehawken HS as the Linebacker and Running Back Coach.
His
area of expertise is Linebacker and Running-Backs.
Ortiz
played High School Football at Weehawken HS, and was a Linebacker and a Running
Back. He graduated in 1995.
At
FDU / Madison, he was an Outside Linebacker. He was awarded All
Conference LB three times, and was a preseason All American as a Senior. He was also named Team Captain and FDU
Defensive Player of the Year his Senior year. He
graduated in 2000.

PATRICK WALSH SR. - Assistant Coach
MATT SMITH - Assistant Coach
This
is the first season for Coach Smith with the WHS Barrons
Program, and the second season overall coaching HS football. Previously,
he spent the 2004 football season at Cardinal McCarrick
HS in South Amboy as the Wide Receiver and Defensive Backs Coach at the Varsity
level, and he was assigned to the JV's as Head Coach.
His
area of expertise is Quarterback, Wide Receiver and Defensive Backs.
He
played HS Football for

the conclusion of the 2000 season, he was named to the All-Red Division, and
All-Area player.
Smith

STEELE - Assistant Coach
This
is the third season for Coach Steele with the WHS Barrons
Program.
His
area of expertise is Administrative Assistant to Coach Russo, and Varsity
Assistant Coach.
He

Coach Steele resides in the Hopelawn section of
CHARLES McDEVITT - Assistant
Coach
This
was the first season for Coach McDevitt with the WHS Barrons
Football Team, and his third season overall with the Program.
In
2005, he was assigned as an assistant coach with the Freshmen Squad. The
team registered a 7-0-2 season. He also managed WoodbridgeFootball.com,
and kept the official game day stats.
In
June of 2005, he retired after 25 years of service from the Woodbridge Police
Department. He held the rank of Sergeant.
In
2004 and 2003, he assisted Coach Russo with the development of this web site
and kept the official game day stats for the football program.
Currently,
he lives in the Woodbridge Proper section of the Township with his wife Amy and
their three sons C.J. (WHS Football 2000, '01, '02, and '03), Thomas (WHS
Football 2003, '04, '05, and '06) and David.
