The Barrons Sideline

Playoff Qualification on the Line!

The 2006 NJSIAA Football Playoffs are more than 2 months away, but for the Woodbridge Barrons, the next four regular season games have become a survival test to qualify for those playoffs.

The Barrons have a 1-3 season record, with only 9 Power Points to date.  Realistically, they have to produce 50+/- to gain a berth into this year’s post season.  That sounds like a daunting task, but Woodbridge is very capable of producing four victories and gathering those PP.

Here is a breakdown of the remaining schedule with the past three season scores and records.

October 6th at Edison.  Wood has defeated the Eagles the past 3 seasons.  The Eagles will produce 8-10 PP this season.  I expect a huge game by the Barrons, lead by Garret Mozolic, and produce the 2nd Woodbridge W this year and the collection of those PP.

October 13th, JP Stevens.  The record stands at 2-1 in favor of the Barrons under Coach Russo.  The lone loss was in 2005, a 35-33 shoot out!  The Hawks will produce 11-13 PP.  There will be no shoot out this year! The Barrons Defense is light years better than 2005 and will produce the 3rd W while increasing their PP total.

October 20th, Old Bridge.  Another 2-1 head to head record.  The Knights haven’t found success so far this season, and are ripe to be taken along with 9-11 PP with the 4th W.

October 27th at South Brunswick.  Wood has a 2-1 record against the Vikings the past 3 games.  A 20-12 loss started the 2005 season.  Again, the Barrons have a more seasoned group of players this year, and with Playoff positioning so important to them, a 5th W will be posted along with 9-11 PP.

Coach Russo will have his staff and team prepared.  The work will all be done.  Each game day, it will be one play at a time, and one win at a time.

Bottom Line:  4 Games + 4 Wins = A Shot at the Playoffs!
