North Jersey 2 Group 4: Unbeaten Union remains
on top here, with unbeaten Bayonne
right behind. Surprising Irvington,
Piscataway, JP Stevens and Bridgewater-Raritan have only
one loss each, and after that it’s really jumbled. In the mix and needing to just keep winning
is Woodbridge (4-2). The Barrons and Plainfield
are the only two teams with just two losses.
That’s eight playoff spots if your
counting. Columbia
and Elizabeth are sniffing.
Barrons on the Move.

A trip to the
post season might have seemed like a fading dream after Woodbridge
opened the season with losses to Old Bridge
and Sayreville, but the Barrons
never lost sight of the goal. And after
four straight wins, the squad is in a position to make it’s
dream a reality. “We just want to go to
the playoffs,” senior running back Keith Zalasar said
after the Barrons won 14-6 last Friday night at South
Brunswick. “We want to make
this season memorable. We’ve sucked it
up and shown we got the heart.” Zalasar ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns against South
Brunswick. He also threw a
13 yard touchdown pass, but saw it negated by an illegal receiver penalty.
Zalasar, who scored on a 33 yard toss sweep and a 2 yard
plunge, drew praise from Vikings coach Mark Prelewicz. “We knew who their go to guy was,” Prelewicz said. We
knew the toss was comng and he still got outside and
scored on us. It’s hard to get a good
hit on him. Once he gets out there, he
moves. He’s a great back.”
Woodbridge
entered the weekend seventh in power points in NJSIAA North Jersy
2 Group 4. A come from behind 17-14
overtime victory two weeks ago over Piscataway, which
snapped the Chiefs 16 game winning streak, proved the Barrons
are a team with which to be reckoned with down the stretch. “That win gave us a big lift.” Zalasar said. “But
we couldn’t take anything easy. We had
to make our season with this (South Brunswick) win. Man, we stepped it up big. We had to suck it up, and we did”.
